In an era where businesses are encouraged to move faster than ever before, speed has become a competitive advantage. Products are launched quickly, trends change overnight, and success is often measured by how rapidly a company scales.
For Shazeb Khan, founder of Aur Amör, that philosophy never felt complete.
His journey into perfumery began in 2018 with an ordinary YouTube recommendation and a notebook filled with observations rather than a business plan. What started as curiosity gradually evolved into years of disciplined learning under the guidance of a senior master perfumer whose expertise combined artistic perfumery with analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry and fragrance analysis.
The experience reshaped his understanding of craftsmanship.
Rather than focusing only on finished fragrances, Shazeb became fascinated by everything that came before them. He explored botanical distillation, producing his own rose water and distilling Golden Magnolia flowers to understand aromatic materials at their source. He prepared handcrafted tinctures from Madagascar vanilla beans, Ambrette seeds, roasted coffee beans, Ethiopian civet paste, Siberian castoreum, cured leather, smoked cigarette tobacco and seven varieties of tobacco leaves – not simply to create fragrances, but to understand the character of each material before it became part of a composition.
That curiosity extended even to perfume alcohol itself. While many regarded ethanol as merely a carrier, he spent years comparing alcohols derived from different agricultural sources, studying denaturants, purity levels and production methods, convinced that craftsmanship is often determined by details most people never notice.
Those experiences gradually shaped the philosophy behind Aur Amör.
Rather than building a company around speed, Shazeb chose to build it around patience, observation and continuous learning. He believes that true luxury cannot be rushed because craftsmanship requires time – time to study, to experiment, to refine and, above all, to understand.
That philosophy is reflected in the name Aur Amör itself. Inspired by the ideas of Aura and Amour (Love), it represents his belief that every person carries an unseen presence shaped by the qualities they cultivate within, and that every creation carries something of its creator. To him, the finest craftsmanship is not simply measured by technical excellence, but by the intention and integrity invested in the work.
Today, Aur Amör is being developed as an independent fragrance house committed to thoughtful craftsmanship rather than rapid expansion. Its first fragrance, ORENZO, marks the beginning of a long-term vision rather than the completion of one.
For Shazeb, the principles that guide perfumery also apply to leadership. Businesses built solely for speed may achieve quick results, but enduring institutions are built through consistency, discipline and trust. Those qualities cannot be manufactured overnight.
As Aur Amör continues to grow, his ambition extends beyond launching new fragrances. He hopes to contribute to a culture where Indian craftsmanship is recognised not only for creativity, but also for its patience, precision and respect for the process behind exceptional work.
In a world increasingly defined by immediacy, Aur Amör stands for a different belief:
Speed may build businesses. Craftsmanship builds Houses.
